Leaves from the Theatre of War

Four goblin heads are framed within boxes and float at the top of the picture plane. An abstracted crucifix divided the plane. Beneath them a mass of human tumult churns and piles of human skulls creating the horizon. Vertical format; black ink on paper.

Leaves from the Theatre of War, 1992,

24 in x 18 in, Ink on Paper

In the early 1980s, Kanso created a series of 242 macabre tragicomedy ink drawings called Leaves from the Theater of War (1980-1992) that detail his personal account of the realities of war. Titled in English, Arabic, German, French, and Spanish, the series reflects Kanso's interpretation of the universal nature of human societies, conflicts, and desires.
